"I have been working out at the CrossFit Place since 2015. After trying everything from running, HIIT classes, spinning, swimming, and boxercise, to step class to Zumba, to bootcamps to hoop classes, to dance classes... I finally got sucked into CrossFit, and have never looked back!
I have always loved the intensity and the stimulus that comes from a CrossFit workout. As well as enjoying working out with our members, I love the process of testing my abilities.
For years I was happy to just turn up to class, work out and go home on a high, but over the last 12 months I have tried to focus on perfecting my craft; getting my 1st pull up, and nailing double unders! Handstand push-ups till the cows come home…. Muscle ups I’m coming for you!
After recently passing my CF-L1, I have started coaching some classes, which has given me a completely new perspective on CrossFit. I am so excited and thankful for all the support from my fellow coaches and to all the members who are helping me along this journey."

Phil
Head Coach
CrossFit Level 1 & 2
Phil opened The CrossFit Place box over ten years ago (who remembers when it was in the barn?!) and has very recently handed the business over to Sarah Abernethy. While Phil decided to step away from the business side, he is remaining as part of the community by continuing to coach throughout the week.
In Phil’s words, the community is the most unique thing about The CrossFit Place:
“People actually find authentic relationships with other people…that’s what makes it so special. Everything else is just exercise.”
Phil holds the CrossFit level 1 and 2 certifications and is an LSSM certified sports and remedial masseur. And he can easily be persuaded with the gift of peanut butter or croissants

"In November 2017 I attended my first class at The CrossFit Place and I knew I had found something special. Great workouts and a strong community kept me coming back for more: I was hooked!
4 years later, I completed my CrossFit Level 1 certificate course, and I now get to be one of the coaches and ignite that love for CrossFit in others.
My favourite thing about the box is how welcoming everyone is. The whole place feels very wholesome!
My favourite part about coaching is seeing someone's face when something clicks and they are able to do a new skill such as toes to bar or handstand push-ups."

"I started working out at The CrossFit Place over 10 years ago, and remember it as ‘The Barn’!
I fell in love with the CrossFit sport because it gave me new ways to challenge myself.
The community of like-minded individuals coming to the gym to improve is inspiring. Each workout is varied, accessible and scalable. Seeing the progression made amongst friends is really rewarding. It’s also nice knowing you’re not battling through the workouts alone.
The CrossFit Place has been a big part of my life for over a decade. Now as a Coach, it’s a privilege to give back to the community.
The most fulfilling thing about coaching at The CrossFit Place is helping people make changes to their health, fitness and improve their everyday lives whilst also having FUN!"

"I grew up watching The CrossFit Place grow right from the start when my dad opened it over 10 years ago. Watching the gym take shape and the community expand has been pretty amazing.
My favourite thing about the box is the atmosphere within the community; everyone is always very supportive of each other which is what CrossFit is all about!
Helping people get their first muscle up, push up, box jump, or any other first is one of my favourite things about coaching!"

"It's hard to believe, but CrossFit has been part of my daily life for an entire decade now.
Back in 2012, I remember seeing people lifting what I thought were impossibly heavy weights during the opening evening at the very first 'The CrossFit Place' in Phil and Susie's back garden.
I remember thinking - 'I will never be able to do any of that... but I want to try!'
Part way through Round 1 of my first ever workout, I walked outside and threw up in the drain. I was incredibly deconditioned after years of no exercise, and I was hooked.
I've spent 10 years learning, and in the midst of that, I've been privileged to spend 6 years coaching on behalf of this wonderful community too.
Every day is a school day at our gym. If it's not learning how to a move, it's finding out something about myself which I can take into my everyday life.
It's a level playing field where everyone who takes part, succeeds.
Our programming allows everyone, whoever you are, and whatever your ability or experience, to get faster, stronger, leaner - whatever your goal, you end up more ready for life.
This place - The CrossFit Place - is where I play, where I work, where I socialise, where I meet my extended family.
It has genuinely become my constant, my escape, my safe place, my 'church', my home."

"CrossFit suits me as it not only makes me fitter, but it also helps keep me functional outside of the gym.
I’ve always loved The CrossFit Place’s welcoming community, which is now become my place to see friends who are now like family. TCFP helps me de-load from the real world whilst also getting stronger and fitter together. I’ve loved being able to open the doors for people to find that for themselves.
I’ve enjoyed helping others all my life and now I get to do that whenever I’m in the box! Now I can help everyone be ready to crush their enemies or be fit and ready for the zombie apocalypse..."

"The CrossFit Place is my safe place. I joined in 2017 after many years of long laborious miles on the treadmill. I had never picked up a barbell or weight in my life through fear of judgement and lack of education in other gyms. 5 years later, and I am still learning and progressing.
The gym and the community has been essential throughout my battles with mental health. I am always grateful for my extended 'family' and all the fun that is had alongside the training.
Anyone of any age and any ability is welcomed to the gym with open arms!"
